Frequently Asked Questions
What is this service?
ESellerAds is a viral advertising solution for Etsy Sellers.
What can I do with it?
You can post your ads to social networks, blogs, and sites; you can bookmark your ads using Twitter, Digg, Del.icio.us, FriendFeed, MyAOL, StummbleUpon; you can email your ads using gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail, or manually; you can keep track of your ads on your desktop using Yahoo Widgets or Vista Sidebar.
How does it work?
We use the Etsy API to gather your product information including photos, logos, descriptions and prices to create your ESellerAds. Once the ad is created, we check your Etsy store every day to see if you've made any changes. If you did, we update your ads all across the internet.
How do I get started?
Begin by clicking the "Try it Now" button on the ESellerAds home page.
How much does the service cost?
ESellerAds is currently free.
Why are the ads free?
You give us your email address, we give you free ads. We won't give your email address to anyone. In the future we may offer other products that we may want to charge for and may reach out to you via email. We may also email you concerning ESellerAds updates, announcement or issues.
How do I cancel?
You can cancel anytime. Click the cancel button on your personal web page which you'll get after you create your ads. Or contact us here.
How do I use an "embed code"?
Click the share link on the bottom left of the ad and click the copy button to get the embed code. Paste the embed code into the appropriate place on your site. For example, Most blogging platforms provide a "Rich Text" tab and a "HTML" tab. You would paste the embed code under the HTML tab. See the Help section of the platform you are using and search for "embeding widgets" and other similar keywords.
How are ad sizes determined?
Ad sizes are standard industry sizes. For background go here.
How do I add ESellerAds to my Typepad sidebar?
In the lower left corer of your ad, click 'Share' then click 'Copy' the embed code, you can then go to Typepad and paste it in to the sidebar. Log in to Typepadm go to 'Design' tab, then choose 'Content', then highlight the 'Embed your own HTML' Module. Then click 'Add this module'. Paste the code in to 'HTML' box, add a title and click 'Enter'. You can then choose where in the sidebar you want your ESellerAds to go.
Do the ads work on Facebook?
Yes, on personal pages. Future version will include Fan Pages.
How do I use Twitter with my ESellerAds?
Log in to your Twitter account. Next, go to your ESellerAd and click Share, then click Bookmark, then click Twitter and this will take you to Twitter. In your "What are you doing box?" you will automatically get something like "Check it out: http://bit.ly/[morehere]" This link will take people to a web page with the ad already in it. Of course, you can change the text from "Check it out" to something more descriptive.... but the link with a page with your ad in it is already there. You can also track use of the link by adding a "+" so http://bit.ly/[morehere]+
Why don't the 'More' and 'Buy' links in ESellerAds work in MySpace?
Unfortunately, it's a policy of MySpace to block out-going links from 3rd parties. The way to get around this is for you to put links directly into your MySpace page.
I don't see any adds on the screen.. where the ads are supposed to be is blank. What is the problem?
If you have ad blocking software on your PC, it could be blocking your ads from appearing on the screen. You can try turning off the blocking software temporarily.
The photos of my products don't look good in my ads? How can I make them look better?
Here is a blog post which has lots of links about improving your shop's photos: http://www.doyouetsy.com/forum/topics/take-better-photos-for-your.
How do I post a skyscraper ad into a Wordpress sidebar?
This is a workaround so it has a few steps, but should not be too difficult. In the lower left corer of your 160x600 sized ad, click 'Share' then click 'Wordpress' then enter your Wordpress username and password and click 'Post'. Now, go to your Wordpress admin page, click 'Posts' find the post with the ad and click 'Edit'. Next, click the HTML tab (Not the Visual tab) and copy (Ctrl + C keys) ALL of the code. Click 'Appearance' and select 'Widgets'. Drag the 'Text' widget to your side bar, click the 'down arrow' to expand. Finally, 'Paste' (Ctrl + V keys) the code you previosly copied in to the large text area, click 'Save' and click 'Close'. The skyscraper ad should now appear on your Wordpress side panel. If you do not want to keep the skyscraper ad as a post, you can now go back and delete it.
